CILIP is the professional body for library and information professionals in the UK. Within CILIP, there is a Prison Libraries Group (PLG) dedicated to supporting members who provide library services to people in prison.
As noted on the PLG website, the aims of the group are:
- to share and develop ideas through training and publications;
- to be of benefit to all members concerned with library services to prisoners, prison and education staff;
- to liaise with the Prison Service;
- to encourage contracts between the local library authorities and Prison Service establishments;
- to be an active part of CILIP.
